Thinking we might actually need to do some work, we flew to Mumbai, where we were wonderfully hosted by Rick. We endured our collective ailments, with much holiday cheer over a great deal of air, air that had the same clout as that in Mumbai streets at rush hour, but with somewhat less diesel.
To describe Mumbai as jam-packed, loud, organic, hot--well, that is an understatement, but it's been that way for a very long time. Some 19 million people tolerate it for the sake of work, family and friends. There are signs of accelerated development and with it, a heightened awareness on issues related to high-density housing, transport and the environment. Let's hope the tax dollars can be found and the resources flow. It's a city to watch.
